Janice's obituary

Janice Mann was born Sept 16, 1942, and passed peacefully with her daughter by her side on Jan 15, 2022 after experiencing a sudden heart attack the day before. Janice had a loving and peaceful spirit - always willing to help at a moment's notice. She enjoyed reading, writing, playing games, and was always up for a road trip, especially to Branson or anywhere that might serve crab legs.

Janice was raised on a farm south of Beebeetown, IA with her 3 brothers and 2 sisters where she developed much of her empathetic and compassionate nature. She was a loving woman who enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and larger church community. While working in Omaha after graduation from high school, Janice met her future husband, Jack. They were introduced at a church reunion in Iowa and fell in love writing letters back and forth. A few years later, she married her pen pal, and joined him in Puerto Rico where he taught at a US Air Force base and pastored a local congregation. After their first few years of marriage, they returned to the states to take up residence in Emmetsburg, Iowa where they raised their two children, Lisa and Brian. Janice was their biggest fan at sporting events and music concerts, and was an active leader in their 4-H, scouting, and church activities. After retirement, Janice and Jack moved to Independence, Missouri to be closer to Lisa and their church community. They loved to travel and eventually became Winter Texans in Mission, Texas. After Jack passed in 2010, Janice traded her Missouri summer home for a condo in West Des Moines, Iowa to be closer to Brian and especially grandchildren. Enjoying the Texas retirement community and lifestyle, Janice eventually sold her home in Iowa to concentrate full time on Bingo, playing cards, and reading. She knew she had an enticing place for family to visit during the cold Midwestern winters.

Janice was a planner, a caretaker, and a faithful friend. She loved visiting with others and developing meaningful connections - 'filling her cup’ with the joy she attained through fostering relationships. Janice was an engaging storyteller with the ability to make you smile and laugh. She wrote memoirs filled with appealing stories and perhaps missed her calling as a writer. She trusted in the Lord and strived to serve in any way she could, be it cooking, offering to run errands, or calling to check in on people.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Mann, and her parents, Vincent and Emily Killpack. She is survived by 3 brothers and 2 sisters including, Lee Killpack, Dale Killpack and wife Marion Killpack, Kenneth Killpack and wife Mary Killpack, and sisters, Kathy Matthews and husband Max Matthews, and Carol Brandon and husband Steve Brandon. In addition, she has 2 children, daughter, Lisa Serig and husband Craig Serig, residing in Leawood Kansas, and son, Brian Mann and wife Skyla Mann, who live in West Des Moines, Iowa. Janice loved and doted on her grandchildren including Jessica Murphy and husband Stephen Murphy and great-grandson Wyatt, Miles Serig and wife Alex Serig, Mariah Hewitt and husband Tristan Hewitt and great-granddaughter Adalee, Carlyn Mann, and Reagan Mann. Janice was a beloved aunt to 18 nieces and nephews and their own families.

Janice will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend.
