A Celebration of Life is scheduled for February 7, 2019, 11:00 am at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd, Tampa Florida 33610. A reception will follow at 13610 Westshire Dr, Tampa Fl 33618.


Janice “Cookie” Mae Chaplin, 77, of Harlem, New York, passed away on January 28, 2019. Janice (Cookie) was born to Late John Cartwright Sr. and Louise Cartwright, November 11, 1941, in New York, New York where she resided for several years. She graduated from John Adams High School in 1959 then attended Harlem Hospital School of Nursing. She married Paul E. Chaplin Sr. in 1961, and they lived together in Springfield Gardens, New York for a year and later moved to Long Island in 1963 where they purchased their new home to start their family.

Cookie continued her education in Nursing where she earned her BS in 1968 from State University of New York. Cookie also earned her Masters in 1969 from C. W. Post. Cookie began her career at Pilgrim State Hospital, later moving on to Suffolk Developmental Center where she obtained her goal as a Nursing Administrator where she retired in 1986.

In Cookie’s leisure time, she enjoyed traveling, reading, bingo, bowling, slot machines and all types of cards games. She enjoyed family game night and trivia. Cookie cherished her time with family and friends.

Cookie leaves her legacy with her dearest husband Paul “Boobie” E. Chaplin, Sr. and three children, Paul (Paul-Paul) E. Chaplin Jr.(Cassandra), Perry “Peppy” E. Chaplin (Bernice) and Nicole “Nikki” L. Chaplin. Cookie also leaves to cherish her memory her brother John (Buddy) W. Cartwright, Jr., sister Sheila A. Cartwright, grandchildren Linnea Chaplin, Paul “PJ” E Chaplin III, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Her children remember her as a being caring and unselfish.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
