Janet's obituary
Janet Lou Wallischeck, 95, Greenville, Ohio passed away Sunday, November 13, at Everheart Hospice at Wayne Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Janet, a lifetime Greenville resident, was born July 3, 1927, to the late Elmer and Emma Hershey. She was also preceded in death by her childhood sweetheart Paul Franklin Wallischeck whom she married June 23rd, 1945.
Finding joy in all she did, Janet kept active into her mid-eighties. She worked for many years at Wayne Hospital, continuing after retirement as a volunteer and receiving 2010's Volunteer of the Year Award. Her volunteerism extended to Hospice, visiting patients and making deliveries; to St. Mary's Catholic Church, delivering communion to shut-ins and serving at various events; and to assuming responsibilities with the Greenville Alumni group and her own class reunions.
Her interests range from reading inspirational books, sending cards to her many friends, traveling, dancing, bowling and poetry as a reader and writer. Several of her poems were even published. Because of her love of butterflies, Janet even tattooed one on her ankle. One cannot forget she loved to watch and talk about sports, especially Ohio State football.
Some of her special times were with family. Janet is survived by two daughters: Paulette (Chuck) Devor, Pickerington, OH, and Judy (Rick) Byrd, Tomball, Texas; grandchildren: Angie (Jeff) Cannon, Rita Byrd, Mike (Magan) Byrd, Jan (Dan) Belmar, Adam (Sarah) Devor; seven great-grandchildren: Jack Cannon, Mikah Byrd, Ellie Cannon, Mekada Byrd, Ethan Blemar, Henry Devor, Emmett Devor; sister Joanne Shelton, Greenville; and two nieces: Peggy Goodpaster and Vickie Bailey, both of Greenville.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Greenville, Saturday, Dec. 17th, 10:00 a.m. and/or a light reception at Beanz Buttercream Bakery, Third Street, Greenville, from 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Because Janet always wanted to go to Ohio State, she donated her body for research to the school. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Darke County Hospice or Everheart Hospice, Wayne Hospital.
