Janet's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janet Sue Lant (Crowder), a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She passed away on January 3, 2025, at the age of 77 surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on September 1st 1947 in Alhambra, California, Janet called Riverside, California home for almost 50 years.  She lived a life rich in love, laughter, and purpose and was married for 57 beautiful years to her devoted husband, Roy, who was not only her partner in life (and crime) but her greatest source of joy and strength.

Janet is survived by her husband, Roy, son Gene, daughter in-law Angela, son Paul and daughter in-law Roberta.  She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Taylor, Nick, Tyler, Paige and Kira and one great-grandchild, Bailey, each of whom she adored and held a special place in her heart.

A woman of warmth and wit, Janet had a deep love for her family as well as her community.  She was deeply involved with the local school board and was an active member of the Parent-Teacher Association for many years ensuring that education was always a top priority.  Her love for her community extended beyond education as well.  Janet had a genuine interest in the lives of others and for many years wrote a weekly community based column for the Press Enterprise newspaper highlighting the accomplishments and goings on of others within the local area.  She believed in the power of a close-knit community and worked tirelessly to foster that spirit wherever she went.

Outside of her community service, Janet loved bowling and belonged to many different leagues over the years.  She was also a member of a local Bunco group, who met monthly for games, laughter, and cherished memories.  Her home was a haven filled with love and a unique charm.  She loved to host family Christmas parties and enjoyed entertaining.  A collector of chicken-themed knickknacks, Janet delighted in finding whimsical pieces that brought a smile to everyone who visited.  Her collection became a symbol of her playful spirit and ability to find joy in life’s simple treasures.  She was also an avid seamstress and enjoyed the art of crochet and making handmade gifts for her friends and family.

Janet will be remembered for her boundless compassion, quick wit, unique sense of humor and unwavering devotion to her family and community.  Her legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A celebration of her life will be held on a date yet to be determined where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and share stories.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her honor to the American Kidney Fund (www.kidneyfund.org) or the National Kidney Foundation (www.kidney.org)
