Janet's obituary
Janet Maria Huskin, 62, of Abilene, Texas, passed away peacefully, pain free and surrounded by family at 10:47am on August 20th, 2025 in San Antonio, Texas, after her 12-year battle with cancer. Janet was born on November 21, 1962, in Jackson, Tennessee, when her family briefly lived there while her dad attended school, before moving back to Canada where she lived until she moved to Abilene, TX, to study education at Abilene Christian University in 1980.
She met the love of her life, James “Jimmy” Huskin in May of 1981 at ACU. They were married on March 24, 1984, at Highland Church of Christ in Abilene, TX. They spent 37 years together growing a family, raising six children, spending quality time playing solitaire, spite and malice and watching Wheel of Fortune. Jimmy passed away suddenly on February 12, 2022.
Janet was strong willed, beautiful, resilient, creative, funny and loved harder than anyone. Quick with a joke and kinder than most. Janet was a talented artist in whatever she set her mind to. She especially loved quilting, cross-stitching, crocheting, knitting, making clothes and blankets for her children, puzzles, and diamond art. Janet was a stranger to no one and made each person feel special, because to her, they are. Janet was a homemaker in San Angelo, Abilene, and in San Antonio living with Jillian and Brendon for the last five months.
She was known as “Lovey” to many, including her seven beautiful grandchildren, Jasmine, Finley, Aubree, Jacob, Everett, Charlie, and Wyatt. Janet and Jimmy are survived by their son Josh and his wife Stephanie, their son Jeremy, their daughter Jessica and her husband Kelen, their son Jake and his wife April, their son Jayden, their daughter Jillian and her husband Brendon.
Janet is survived by her loving parents, Glen and Gwen Dods, her brother Dan Dods and his partner Cynthia Smith, her brother Tim Dods and his wife Lenora Mendoza, and her sister/ best friend Jacki and her husband Howard Hathorn. Janet is also survived by sister-in-laws Cindy Boyd, Debbie Moot and Janice Huskin. Janet is also survived by numerous loving cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and so many friends.
Janet is predeceased by her loving husband, Jimmy, and his parents CF and Jean Huskin, brother-in-laws, Allen Huskin, Carl Huskin and his wife Tammy.
The Huskin family appreciates all the condolences and help that they have graciously received. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the memorial fund for medical and memorial expenses.
The family would like to especially thank Dr. Melynk and staff at Texas Oncology in Abilene, Texas, for over a decade of exceptional care and friendship.
