Full of life, love, joy, laughter and hilarious sass - that is how I remember Jan. Daynee and Kyla, your mum's greatest qualities live on in you, including her strength. Daynee, I also see her in your beautiful girls and have no doubt her presence will continue to be felt. I wish your time with her had been longer as she loved you both so fiercely, but I hope all of you adventures and memories bring you comfort and smiles as you move through your grief. Sending you love, Cals xo
It was awesome to reconnect with Jan this summer after so many years. Duke, Jan, and I had a few funny experiences last summer that will be cherished. Jan’s guidance and truth with things has really helped me on my journey, its hard to imagine how she must have blessed the lives of her closer friends and family. Sending lots of love to her family and inner circles, knowing how difficult it is to lose someone so amazing. Blessings to you Jan, and your amazing life, connect with you soon in the 5th dimension.. Love Mark.

My dear Daynee and Kyla,

Your mum was one of a kind. I loved how it didn't take a second for us to slip into our banter when we saw each other no matter how long it had been. She jump right into a comment about my weight or she'd ask about a friend who had wronged me a decade earlier and let me know that she never trusted her any way. Whether she'd ever met this person was besides the point. She'd remember me sharing disappointment and she'd stay firmly on "my side" no matter how one sided the version of the story I'd told her.

She loved to gossip but the best kind - dramatic, silly, not grounded in reality or mean spirited. I'll never forget sleeping over after a New Year's party at Whistlers...we must have been in university. Glengrove was renovated, bright and cozy. The perfect setting for recounting foggy memories under blankets and sipping tea. She was excited that I spoke to a boy I liked and teased me endlessly for not being able to seal the deal and heading to the rest room for a date with the toilet after too many cocktails.

Whenever anyone mentions my wedding, they say I had the most beautiful flowers they'd ever seen. It is true. Fuschia peonies will forever be my favourite and I didn't even know what they were before that day. I didn't give her any input (she didn't ask for any either) but I do know that she must have charged me less than 10% her market rate.

I loved Jan and I felt so loved by her. Sending you both, your girls and Duke so much love. You had the best of the best and I wish it could have been for longer. You all deserved that. xo

I met Jan at Western University where she was the brightest spark in Spencer Hall. I have so many good memories of our times together there and later in Toronto. Then, as sometimes happens in life, our paths went in different directions until we reconnected about ten years ago. She was the same warm, funny, encouraging spirit. No one was more full of life. Dayne and Kyla I am so sorry for your loss of such a fierce loving mom and grandmom. Condolences to all her family.

Jan and I have been friends for 50 years and I was very fortunate to spend many years at Pt. au Baril in her company. We were known there as Thema and Lousie having spent the past 13 summers enjoying Raspberry Island and all who came calling. You could always count on Jan to say what was on her mind, and I loved her straight forward approach to life. Jan will be sadly missed and I have lost a very dear friend.

So terribly sorry to hear of Jan’s death and send my condolences to her friends and family.

Her zest and energy were great fun to be around.  I looked forward to her every visit and will miss those opportunities.

What I always knew after first meeting Jan is that she was a straight shooter….if ever there was one! If you were her friend she was fiercely loyal and if you were her family you were as though Saints on Earth  If you were her friend Chris Phippen you were part of the Odd Couple as they cohabited a cottage in Point au Baril for many many years  If you got invited for dinner you got the best meal and drink you had on the Bay    She WAS the dinner party and you left with thoughts and questions she unraveled through the night  The last time I saw Jan was July 31 at Kennedy’s Grocery store in PaB and she asked us to come over for a drink or dinner and I regret now asking for a raincheck  RIP beautiful Jan  I am sure you are shaking it up on the other side  Your friends Faye and Peter
jan and I gobbled garlic like it was jellybeans …My last adventure with Jan was to a  big patch of  Garlic in Caledon..We sat on an old log munching  our egg salad sandwiches …stuffed with wild garlic leaves…..We ate in silence  as there was soo much beauty around us …Watching Jan dig for garlic was an experience i’ll never forget,,it was as tho she had found gold ……I knew I had found gold when I met her ! I adored that wonderful woman
Jan was the most generous person I have ever known. Generous of spirit, support , time , and encouragement. Always given with her wonderful wit and intelligence. I will hear her forever and of that I am glad.

I am sitting a work thinking back to Jan bursting into the room with tales of adventure with Duke, her girlfriends or some comical story involving her granddaughters. I simply adored her company and those visits. Always a lift to the day and something funny to say -

I have never met a more proud Mum. Dayne and Kyla she would just beam whenever speaking of you.

I will be thinking of Jan sitting on a Georgian Bay rock, tucked into her book with her beloved family not far out of view.

I first met Jan back in about 1968 through my sister Pinky Franklin.  They were at Western University together.  A few years later, Jan and a friend were moving a 41 foot sailboat from Great Exuma in the Bahamas to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands.  I flew to Great Exuma to help them move the boat.  It was hurricane season (July) and a dangerous undertaking, but we finally made it after enduring several bad storms at night.  Jan was a “trooper” through the whole voyage, which took two horrific weeks to complete.

My family has known Jan since those early days, and the girls have remained close ever since.  She had a great sense of humour and an infectious laugh.  We will all miss her terribly.  Heartfelt condolences to all Jan’s family.
