Jane's obituary
Carole “Jane” Gorham, age 78 passed away Tuesday, December 5th surrounded by family. Born December 21st, 1944 in Washington D.C., Jane was the 3rd of 5 children born to Page and Margaret Carter. The family relocated back to the Pacific Northwest and she spent much of her life in the Seattle area.
Jane, like many had challenges early in life, but always worked incredibly hard to overcome those difficulties and secure a good life for her three kids. Rather than resigning to her trials she worked diligently as a single-mom to love and raise her kids. Taking non-traditional jobs in manufacturing and labor, she was able to offer a good home for herself and her family. Jane was one of the most forgiving people and always found time to care for the needs of others. She epitomized the phrase “It’s not about the cards you’re dealt, but how you play your hand”. And she played her hand well.
Later in life she met and married Daniel Gorham. Jane was a wonderful wife to Dan and helped him in his fishing business. They moved to Homer Alaska where Dan ran the boat and Jane ran the business. She would ensure the books were kept, the customers were happy and Dan was cared for. Later when Dan was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, Jane would care for him, work a full-time job and create a loving home environment. She exemplified and lived out love and never failed to encourage others going through their own trials. Jane’s Summer picnics and Christmas gatherings were open to all and gave all of us a reason to rejoice in our lives and our family. We are all better to have known her and to have been a part of her life.
Jane was preceded in death by Dan and leaves behind her 4 siblings (Page Carter II, David Carter, Marialyce Whitley-Lawson and Richard Carter), 3 children (Gary Schrader, Bridget Mithun and Shawn Schrader), 6 grand children (Christina Mithun, Justin Mithun, Nichole Schultz, Trevor Bedingfield, Monica Smith and Jacob Schrader) and 8 great-grandchildren. Jane’s memorial service will be held at 1pm on January 6th, 2024 at 92nd St. Church of Christ in Marysville.
