I was introduced to Jamie on Dec 2007 by my lead Pauline Wylie in my first day worked for CIBC. He was always the go-to guy in content team. He never said no to us. We occasionally took same go train after work. Jamie had great sense humour, always had warm-hearted smile. Praise your heart Jamie!

My friendship with Jamie goes back 25 years.
Our conversations covered a range of topics and it was Jamie who I frequently called upon for test environment advice. We played cribbage (he let me win several times) and this along with Scrabble can be added to his list of hobbies.
He would share stories of your pet birds and as we shared anecdotes of our families, it was evident how much he loved Linda and how proud he was of the children.
My condolences to you all on the passing of your husband and father.

Sorry for your loss, I pray to God to give you the patience.
I can’t forget his smile, he was always smiling even if we were looking into a tough issue.
May God repose his soul with the angels & saints.

@Linda Burton - my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this very difficult time. James will be forever remembered and missed by his co-workers, and words cannot express our sadness.
Sincerely,

To The Burton Family
We are thinking of you at this very difficult time. We send our heartfelt condolences to your family. Although we haven't had the opportunity to meet; Patrick has only had the kindest of words to say about your family.
You graciously welcomed him into your family and home and we are so happy that he feels so accepted by you. When Patrick told us that he had met a girl , I asked him what was she like? His comment was, "She is very sweet" .
May the caring of others be felt in the midst of your grief in the weeks and months ahead.
Sincerely, John & Gayle Davy and Family

I am so grateful that I was able to be a part of Jamie's life, if for shorter a time than I could ever have expected. It is clear to me that his love, and values instilled, will continue on in the grace of his beautiful family. I will fondly remember his sense of humour and quick wit, and the engaging conversations we had. He had a penchant for outfits with interesting colour choices, something we had in common. And of course there are the catchphrases I've picked up! He was nurturing and proud, kind in demeanour and easy to connect with. I know that I will be discovering his impact for a long time to come. I am blessed that he has shared his world with me.

From the moment we met Jamie what stood out the most was the love and amazing relationship he had with Linda and the kids.

When we met earlier in the summer, he talked about his love of swimming and so we invited him to come swim some day. “I’ll swim at the wedding”, Jamie said..... And then there he was coming up the stairs with his trunks on. We thought definitely a man of your words and it was such a wonderful memory and another highlight of the day.

We are so grateful how Jamie and family accepted Holly into their family and made her feel like one of the Burton’s.

Looking forward to hearing many more stories and memories as we know Mike has lots to share.

I met Jamie at CIBC in 1993 and quickly discovered we shared the same sense of humour. I cannot believe he has left the building. We had not spoken in several years but every time we did see or speak to each other it was like time had not passed. I considered Jaime to be one of my best friends incredibly sad to hear the news.

I can confirm that the number one thing in Jaime’s life was his family.

Every time we got together, he would break into stories about Linda and the kids. He spoke one day with great pride and laughter that Gaffer (at some young age 3 or 4?) told him to F off. Jaime was always concerned about what his kids were doing. He would discuss at length what Mike wanted as a career or Sam’s writing and or what Kate and Chris were up to.

The family were very generous to me. While at CIBC I started an evening course at Seneca and Jaime insisted that on those nights I had to come to their place and eat dinner.

At the time, he told me that Linda did everything in the house and how much he loved her for it. I remember to prove the point Jaime asked the kids at the table one night what daddy did at home and the kids all shouted in unison “Nothing!” and everyone laughed. I also remember occasionally Linda whacking me on the back of the head because of something Jamie would say about our behaviour at work.

Jamie and I shared a lot of very funny moments that still make me laugh. He also taught me some valuable life lessons that I use to this day.

I’m very sorry about the news 62 is way to young and he will be missed.

From what I read here, and what I know... is that all of you (Wife & Children) have bits and pieces of Jamie in you, that make such a beautiful scattered puzzle. When you are all together, it creates one beautiful masterpiece, one puzzle, that align perfectly in each piece as it’s put together. As two beautiful souls who created so much love will never be broken, as this love is so powerful and united. May you find the peace and beauty in your own lives, in honour of his, as he lives with and through you forever. ❤️
My interaction with Jamie wasn’t long, but it surely depicted his love for his family. I remember meeting him at the gym’s in-house competition. He was so proud to be supporting and cheering on Kate! You could see the pure happiness on his face while Kate was doing what she loved to do.

Living next door to the Burton’s for 20+ years I will miss the frequent sound of Jamie’s voice, and his laugh.
The last time we spoke, it was socially distanced, at the end of the bushes that separate our homes. We talked politics and the ridiculousness of Trump. How was Ford doing as our premier? His surprise that our dog was still alive (“how old is she?, that dog is immortal!”) lol. We talked about Covid, and that we each thought we had already had it. We talked about our health. Basically we chatted for about an hour about everything and nothing. Anyone that knows Jamie knows he could talk the leg off an iron pot. He was easy to talk with, topics were wide and varied, and ALWAYS peppered with humour!
And then, of course, we talked about family. We updated each other about our kids, how they were doing, what they were doing, etc. Jamie was a consummate family man. We would often see each other on the train going to or from work. If it was at the end of the day Jamie would often say “I just want to get home”. That was where he wanted to be.
One of the last times I saw Jamie was after I heard his excited voice streaming in from next door, through my kitchen window. I looked up to see that Chris had arrived home for a visit. Jamie exclaimed at how good it was to see him, and wrapped Chris up in a hug. I went on with what I was doing and looked back up about a half minute later and they were still in the exact same spot, embraced in that hug. Another half minute later, i looked up again - they were still there! This man hugged like it was an Olympic sport!
I can’t imagine Jamie would have any regrets about leaving this earthly world wishing he had hugged a little longer or a little tighter.
There are no words to make it easier or better. It is a deep and profound loss for the family. Jamie was like a living, breathing, human unicorn, truly one of a kind.

Dad,
Every morning we’d message each other and you’d ask me if I was going to workout and if so if it was going to be a hard one, or a recovery one? I loved telling you about the tough stuff I did and then hearing about your workouts. Thank you for starting that fire within me about working out. Every single one, from now on is for you.

Sam Burton
1990, Toronto, ON, Canada
Dad used to take his four kids out to one of the various parks around North York to give my mom a break. We played in the heat and in the cold, for as long as we needed. At one park near our elementary school, there were bars of various heights that resembled a chin up bar. At a very young age, he would lift us up so we could hold onto the bars, seeing who could hold on the longest. Majority of the time, it was me—it impressed dad, not because I was a girl, but because I was so young. My grip strength impressed him for his entire life. Around 25 I developed neuropathy in my feet and hands. This scared my dad immensely. But I knew I had to keep up my grip strength so I could not only be healthy, but also to keep impressing my dad. I will keep doing that so I can stay strong for myself and for our family dad ❤️.

Through the years I’ve learned so much about Jamie and I know I will continue to hear the stories. In Mike and I’s home we call the quirky sayings that Mike says, “Jamie Burton-isms” and I look forward to hearing them for the rest of my life.

Jamie made sure I was always welcome and comfortable in his home. He always had a spare pair of ear plugs to help me sleep through the night. We talked about our workout routines, office life, he reluctantly shared his raspberry tea with me and made sarcastic jabs. He made me feel at home every visit, thank you for welcoming me into your family.

Jamie showed his love for Linda and his children everyday, and I promise I’ll do the same with your son and our family. Til we meet again ❤️
