Jim's obituary
“Mr. Jim” James William Patterson, passed away peacefully on the morning of October 24, 2022 in his home surrounded by family after a valiant 10-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born on August 22, 1944 in Bluffton, Ohio, Jim lived in 20 different towns before the age of 20 years old. From Ohio to New York to Florida to Utah, Jim spent his youth known to friends as “the new kid.” That is, except for his best friend and sister Ginny, who was always by his side in love and support.
A veteran of the restaurant and HR industries, Jim touched many lives along the way, acting as a trainer, advisor and mentor to those he worked with. He was an avid fan of Duke basketball, bird watching and traveling and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
An active and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jim served in many callings throughout his life. In addition to his full-time mission in Southern California, he served as a ward mission leader, in several bishoprics, and as a high councilor. He enjoyed traveling around to different congregations, getting to know and serve other church members.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, James Patterson and Frances Patterson (Cooney). He is survived by his wife, Lori Patterson (Fritts) and their children: Brooke Turner, Clarke Patterson, James Patterson and Wade Patterson. He is also survived by his children from a former marriage, Laycie Moss, Clinton Seaton and Nathan Seaton.
Special thanks to Trellis Supportive Care for providing amazing support to both Jim and the family during a difficult time. Their attention to care and compassion was felt by everyone in the family, especially from Jim's amazing nurse, Erin.
A memorial service will be held in Clemmons, N.C. at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or Trellis Supportive Care/Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
