James's obituary

James Wilbur Chavis SR, of Charleston, S.C entered into eternal rest on 10/17/24 at Culpepper Health and Rehab in VA. He was born October 25, 1942, in Leesville, S.C to Mildred and Wilbur Chavis. He was a lifelong resident of Johns Island, S.C and moved to VA with his oldest daughter Joanna 8 years ago. He was a retired construction subcontractor. Our dad would get up at the crack of dawn to get to work, come home, and work outside or on his home till bedtime and get up and do it all over again.  He was not an idle man. He was a quiet hardworking man who loved to spend time with family and to fish at Lake Moultrie. He loved Elvis Presley’s Music and we grew up with an appreciation of 50s music because of him. He would often say “thank you, thank you very much.” We hope that Elvis is singing Amazing Grace with you in the presence of God. Daddy you will be missed everyday by all.  We are so proud to be your little girls. You lived a legacy, and we thank God every day we were part of it. A big piece of our hearts has been taken but you leave so many memories with us.  We know that you are not suffering and that you are free of pain. This gives us all some comfort knowing this because you were a busy-body and it drove you crazy to sit still.

He is survived by his wife Jospehine Chavis of Culpepper ,VA, his daughters Joanna Hundley (James) of VA, Jalaine (Laine) Chavis (Donnie) of Hollywood, S.C, Jessica Chavis (James Island, S.C), and his son James Chavis , Jr. (Debbie). He is also survived by his sister Patricia Suggs of Macclenny, Florida and his brother Audrey Chavis of James Island. He was predeceased in death by his brothers Ronald Chavis, Donald Chavis, Charles Chavis, and Larry Chavis. He has 11 grandchildren Brook, Brian C, Ariana, Cody, Dylan, Shana, Alaina, Kaylee, Felicia, Brian M, and Jacob. He has (Brian 2, Brook 1, Cody 3, Shana 3, Felicia 4, Jacob 2, Shana 3, Brian M 5) 23 great-grandchildren. Dad was a quiet man and did not wish for a big elaborate service. Therefore, a Celebration of Life will be announced in the near future, and family/friends will be notified .
