James's obituary
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie-Jean; his son, James Ryan (Johanna); his daughter, Caroline Jean (Kurt), his brothers Bob, Bill, and Butch as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Florence; his father, William; and his sisters, Patricia and Florence.
Jim was born on September 24, 1948 at home in Richmond, BC. He graduated from Richmond High School, where he met his sweetheart Bonnie.
Jim founded Keypower Equipment in 1975 and enjoyed a rewarding career as a marine engineer, even branching off into the film industry where he had many notable accomplishments, including winning an Academy Award for Technical Achievement in 1999.
Grandfather to James, Michael, Madison, Luke and Bradan, he was regularly known to boast and brag about his five grandchildren and was their biggest fans.
His family and friends will remember him as a warm, kind, humourous and generous person. They will also remember his love of racing and flying.
The family would like to thank the staff at Surrey Memorial Hospital for their kindness and attention to Jim in his final days. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation in Jim’s honour to headsupguys.org in support of men’s mental health.
