James's obituary
James Thomas Kaiser was born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, on March 31, 1943, to Grace M. (Phipps) Kaiser and William Edward Kaiser, Sr. He was their fourth child. His family called him Jimmy, and he was sometimes called Jim.
During his high school years, the family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, after his father left his job as a school bus driver to begin working at the Ford Motor Company. As a teenager, Jimmy was driving down the street one day when he saw Sheila sitting on her porch. He drove away, then walked back over and started a conversation with her — and the rest became Kaiser history. In 1963, at a young age, James and Sheila were married. They had a son named Craig and a daughter named Laurie.
Professionally, before starting his career as a police officer, Jimmy worked at a nursing home and the Bailey Meters factory, and he also drove a school bus for children with cerebral palsy. After working for the East Cleveland Police Department for more than 25 years, Officer Kaiser, Badge #101, retired. He had countless proud moments and vivid memories serving the city alongside his partner, Gary Washington. If you asked anyone who knew him, they’d tell you he was also a part-time comedian — always cracking jokes, even during serious moments.
Jimmy always had a saying for every situation and even wrote many of them down in a notebook cherished by the family. He was a natural artist who could draw almost anything but was best known for his portraits. He enjoyed puzzles and assembling police car replicas, which he gave to his friends.
He was known by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as “Daddy Kaiser.” He enjoyed taking them to the Air Show and Dollar Tree, shoe shopping, and out to eat. He came to as many school events as he could. Many of the neighborhood children got to know him when he drove his grandchildren to school and offered them a ride too. He always made sure all the kids around him were well fed, cooking hot breakfasts in the morning and his famous “zoup” in the afternoons.
In 2009, Jimmy and Sheila left Cleveland and moved to Lady Lake, Florida, where they lived for sixteen years before relocating to Katy, Texas, in June, 2025 — shortly before he passed away.
He was loved by family, friends, and anyone he ever encountered. He had a gift for conversation and could befriend just about anybody. He would even feed squirrels out of his hands. He was a blue-eyed gentle giant with biceps of steel, whom Sheila lovingly called her teddy bear. He had one of the kindest and calmest spirits.
He is predeceased by his parents, William and Grace Kaiser, and by his siblings, William “Billy” Kaiser Jr. and Annette Haymon. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Sheila Kaiser; his children, Craig Kaiser and Laurie McLendon; and his daughters-in-law, Wanda Kaiser and Rosiland Kaiser. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Thomas Brundidge, Amanda Brundidge, Jasmine Kaiser, and Monique Kaiser; and his great-grandchildren, Nicolas James LaBondano (son of Thomas Brundidge and Brittany K. Burton), Kali Ray (daughter of Monique Kaiser), and Asher Brundidge (son of Amanda Brundidge). He leaves behind his dear siblings, Grace Cruz, Donald Kaiser, Dorothy Rogers, and Roxanne Hayman-Beachchaump, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives he touched deeply.
