James's obituary

James Christian “Jim” Teter

January 19, 1947 – July 1, 2025

James Christian “Jim” Teter passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on January

19, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas, Jim’s life was marked by purpose, perseverance, and an unwavering

devotion to his family, friends, and community.

After earning a degree in Industrial Engineering from Texas Tech University, Jim began his professional

journey at Square D Company. He soon joined IBM’s Sales Team, where he quickly earned recognition as

“Rookie of the Year.” Over the next 15 years, Jim’s dedication and leadership led him to the role of

Branch Manager in Corpus Christi, Texas.

It was in Corpus Christi that Jim met Patti, a special education teacher. They married in 1987 and built a

beautiful life together over the next 38 years. Their first daughter, Katherine, was born in Corpus Christi.

Shortly thereafter, the family moved to San Antonio, where their youngest daughter, Lauren, was born.

Jim’s career continued to flourish. He served as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Savoir

Technology Group, which was later acquired by Avnet. This transition brought the family to Scottsdale,

Arizona, where Jim held several executive positions, including Senior Vice President of Business

Development and President of Avnet Enterprise Solutions.

Later in his career, Jim found his most fulfilling role as President of Goodwill Industries of Central

Arizona. During his seven-year tenure, he led the organization to record-breaking job placements and

doubled its revenue—transforming lives and uplifting communities across the region.

Jim’s commitment to service extended beyond the workplace. He served on the boards of the Greater

Phoenix Chamber of Commerce and Arizona Business Leadership, and was an active member of Greater

Phoenix Leadership. His impact on both the business and nonprofit sectors was profound and lasting.

Outside of work and service, Jim relished time with his family. He enjoyed sharing fine wine, cigars,

rounds of golf, walks on the beach, and laughter-filled moments with many friends. Among his many

dear friends, his lifelong bond with Leslie Marshall, held a special place in his heart.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Patti; his three beloved daughters: Christian Halsey (Jason),

Katherine Teter (Jamie Overkamp), and Lauren Teter; his cherished grandchildren, Logan and Parker

Halsey. He is also survived by his godson, JJ Butler; older brother, Virgil Teter (Patsy); and nephews, Rex

and Bill Teter. Jim leaves behind a wide circle of dear friends and loved ones in Texas, Arizona, and

beyond.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Hansen Desert Hills

Mortuary, 6500 E. Bell Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85254. A reception will follow at the home of Natalie and

John Ahearn, 11459 E. Mission Lane, Scottsdale, AZ 85259.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, whose

compassionate care brought comfort and peace to Jim and his loved ones.
