James's obituary

James Starrett, 88, of West Chester, Ohio, departed this earthly realm on January 21, 2024. Born on December 19, 1935, in Camden, New Jersey, to James and Marguerite Starrett. James Francis Starrett, Jr., also known as Jim, was a cherished husband, father, pop pop, and esteemed member of his community.

To all who knew him, Jim embodied the virtues of humility, gratitude, and respect for all of creation. His thoughtful and compassionate nature brought solace and joy to his beloved family and countless others. Jim's unwavering faith and love for his fellow beings guided his every action, making him a true blessing in the lives he touched.

Jim leaves behind a legacy of love that survives in the hearts of his son, Michael Starrett, and daughter, Dawn (Mark) Zimmerschied. The light of his presence will continue to shine through his grandchildren: Amanda McDonald, Alexis (Robert) McGuire, Susan Starrett, James Starrett, Christopher Stayton, Steven Stayton, Ronnie Stayton, Veronica Koch, and Nicholas Koch. Also grieving his loss are his sister-in-law, Maryanne Starrett, and his son-in-law, Ron Koch.

He now rests in eternal peace, joining his loving wife, Joan Starrett, his daughter, Linda Koch, his mother, Marguerite, father, James, and dear brother, Frank.

Jim's journey through life was marked by his commitment to education. He pursued higher knowledge at Rutgers University and received his formative education at Camden Catholic High School.

His dedication to service extended beyond the confines of his civilian life. Jim proudly served in the New Jersey Army National Guard, embodying the ideals of loyalty, duty, and honor.

In his professional pursuits, Jim held the esteemed position of District Distribution Manager at General Electric in King of Prussia, PA and Cincinnati, OH. His exemplary leadership and expertise left an indelible mark on the industry he served.

A man of profound faith, Jim found solace in his worship at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Cape Coral, Florida. A lifelong practicing Catholic, he discovered a connection to the divine and a source of inspiration for his journey.

Jim's leisure moments were devoted to the company of his children and grandchildren, treasuring each precious moment with them. His soul was uplifted by the soulful melodies of Frank Sinatra and the captivating rhythms of jazz. In his youth, he embraced the art of the violin and even sought knowledge in the ancient language of Latin. An avid follower of world events, Jim found solace in staying informed through the news. A true loyalist, he cheered passionately for the Cincinnati Bengals and Cincinnati Reds, supporting the teams with unwavering enthusiasm.

As we bid farewell to James Starrett, let us remember the example he set in his pursuit of humility, gratitude, and respect for all of creation. His light will forever guide us, igniting the flame of love and compassion within us all.

The family requests a private memorial service to honor Jim's life. In lieu of flowers, they kindly ask that donations be made in James’ honor to the Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of personal significance, as a tribute to Jim's unwavering generosity and his commitment to caring of others.

May his soul find eternal rest, and may his spirit continue to inspire us to embrace love, kindness, and unwavering faith.

The funeral arrangements are being handled by Coral Ridge Funeral Home in Cape Coral, Florida. Jim's memory will be honored and celebrated privately with his family.
