James's obituary

James Paul Sligar, 64, passed away in his sleep in the comfort of his beloved home on February 15th, 2020 due to a year-long battle with acute myeloid leukemia. He was born and raised in San Angelo, Texas on September 7th, 1955 to June Pugh Livingston and Warren David Sligar. He is survived by his wife, Laura, and his two kids Hannah and Jordan Sligar whom he loved more than anything in the world.
Paul's other great love was music. He loved to wake his family up to the magnificent sound of his piano; from beautiful classical music like Johann Pachelbel to more contemporary music like Elton John and Adele. He could hear a song once and then the house was filled with a beautiful "Paul-esque" rendition of the song. He graduated with his degree in Music Education with a concentration in Classical Performance from Texas State University, then known as Southwest Texas State University, in 1978. From there, he got his Real Estate license and began a career in sales. His charming and eclectic personality was magnetic, making him an excellent salesman.
Paul moved from Austin to Arlington, Texas to pursue his career goals and met his wife, Laura, through work, and after falling for each other over the phone (As Hannah says "Like a late 80's version of the hit Netflix show 'Love is Blind!'"), they traveled to scenic places and grew their business before they had a beautiful Victorian wedding in a Glass Chapel in Eureka Spring and had their children. Paul was known as "Mr. Mom;" he lovingly made delicious meals for his family every night, went to everything from PTA meetings to Chess Club practices, accompanied Hannah's singing in talent shows and recitals, encouraged Jordan to pursue the saxophone in band, did all the grocery shopping, and always had a bargain or new food to brag about when he got home. He was a walking encyclopedia; he knew every type of airplane that flew in the sky, every lake and river and their current water-level in the country, and more about weather patterns than you could even fathom. Paul was what his children like to call a giant goofball, and his infectious laughter could fill up any room. While he wasn't the best at being on time to things, his ability to live in the moment and not worry about the past or the future was truly inspiring; up until his last breaths he was optimistic and positive. Some of his last words were "I'm going on a journey way out of here, and it's gonna be beautiful, baby." We are sure that while his earthly journey is over, his heavenly one is as beautiful as the spot he has reserved in our hearts.
