James's obituary

James Earl Sherlock, Sr., passed away peacefully on Monday, April 4th, 2022, in Mobile, AL, after a brief battle with cancer. Affectionately known as “Big Jim”, “Rock”, and especially “PawPaw”, his family and friends will miss his charm, quick wit, and the love and compassion he shared.

Jim was preceded in death by his son, Scott Ashley Sherlock; brother, William Hazen Sherlock, Jr.; father, William Hazen Sherlock, Sr.; and nephew, Anthony Sherlock.

Jim is survived by his precious loving mother, Mary Frances Wallace Sherlock; his son, James Earl (Pam) Sherlock, Jr., and grandchildren, William Scott Sherlock and Elizabeth Rose Sherlock, all of Cumming, GA; sister, Tomi Jo Sherlock (Steve Preston) of Dothan, AL; brother, Ike Wallace (Jennifer) Sherlock, and nephews Edward Hazen Sherlock and William Connor Sherlock, all of Jacksonville, FL; nephew Luke (Taron) Reaves of Wetumpka, AL; niece Tammy (Ken) Worthing of Sioux Falls, SD; and cousins, Earl Granger, and Mike and Bill Saunders. Jim is also survived by his dear close friend and companion, Jan Sherlock of Pike Road, AL; along with an extensive list of close friends.

Jim was born in 1950 in Mobile, AL, and spent his childhood traveling and living in different locations as part of a military family. Following in the footsteps of his father and brother, Jim was a member of the US Army National Guard and retired in 2011.

Jim took pride in his family and always loved the times when the whole family could be together. He loved to laugh and found joy and laughter at every family holiday event. He was extremely proud of his two sons; and cherished his role as PawPaw to his two grandchildren, never passing up a chance to snap a photo of them or celebrate their accomplishments.

Jim was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery, and served in leadership roles with the Salvation Army of Montgomery. He was well-known for his deep love of golf and Alabama football (Roll Tide!).

In Jim’s words - “love God, love family, love friends”

A celebration of life visitation for Jim will be held Friday, April 22, 2022 at 9:30 AM, at Leak Memory Chapel followed by a celebration of life memorial service at 11:00 AM.
