James's obituary
JONESBORO- James “Jimmy” V. Schencks, 82, passed October 12, 2020, peacefully with his loving wife at his side. He was born June 24, 1938, in Jonesboro, the son of William Sr and Elsie (Varney) Schencks. He was the 8th of 10 children.
James graduated from Jonesboro High School, Class of 1956. The summer after graduation he enlisted with the U.S. Air Force, where he served from 1956 to 1960. He later returned, and married Annie Ackley. The two settled in Jonesboro, and had 3 children. After his time in the service, Jimmy worked his way up to plant engineer at the Milliken Textile mill until it’s closing. Prior to his retirement, Jimmy and Annie enjoyed spending their summers at their camp on Bog Lake.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gambling, harness racing, and camping. He enjoyed spending the last 15 years wintering in Lakeland, FL, playing poker, shuffleboard and talking with his neighbors on the way carport. Anyone who knew Jimmy, knew he loved his Boston Red Sox.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by 3 brothers, 5 sisters and a daughter, Pamela. Surviving with his wife of 59 years, Annie (Ackley) Schencks and his sister Betty Redimarker of Addison, are his daughter Lynn, son Kirby and partner Jennifer, grandchildren; Toshia, James and wife Katie, Danielle and husband Rory, Chris and wife Heidi, Jim, Jordan and husband Seth, Noah and Jenna. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren; Anakyn, Chase, Presley, Colin, Bella, Areya, Haley, Michayla, Emmie and Brynlie - who were the light of his life. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews.
He will laid to rest at the Acadia National Cemetery, during a private family service on Friday, October 23rd. Immediately following at 3 PM the family is holding a public gathering at the Whitneyville Community Room where anyone is welcome to come pay their respects.
