James was born to the late Lexie Robinson and the late Rushia Bishop Robinson in Watervalley, MS. He was raised in a Christian home with 10 siblings. James acceptant Christ at an early age and joined Pleasant Green MBC under the leadership of The late Rev. P. L. Morgan.
