I don’t know what music my Dad listened to when he was growing up, but he did share with me an appreciation for the Beach Boys, especially “Good Vibrations,” on their Pet Sounds album released in May of 1966 – about the same time he and Mom were about to conceive me. Good Vibrations is one of my favorite pieces of all time. It’s so rich with many different sounds and textures. Happy and sad, playful and serious. Jim James and Beck pulled-off the un-coverable song on a Grammy Tribute to the Beach Boys last night on CBS. The final performance of the night was a collaboration by John Legend and Brandi Carlile of “God Only Know.” Mom and Dad, I’d like to dedicate this song to you. God only knows what I’d be without you…
