Jim's obituary
James Richard Purfurst (Jim), of Louisville, Colorado, passed away on December 28, 2022 just short of his 85th birthday. Born in Denver on March 7th 1938, he spent his early years living with his mother Elizabeth (Betty), little sister Patty, and his grandparents in their Denver Park Hill home, while his father Leland was serving in the Army during World War II.
After the war Leland’s career had the family move several times first to Trinidad, Colorado where Jim spent most of his high school career. His brother Bob was born in Trinidad rounding out the family. The next stop was Wichita, Kansas where he graduated from high school. Following high school, a stint in the army, and attending Kansas State University. A short venture with Woolworths took him to Casper, Wyoming where he met the love his life, Carol. Following their marriage, Jim joined his father in purchasing a Texaco distributorship/station in Keenesburg, Colorado. Jim spent many years working in the oil business and making many lifelong friends in the Keenesburg area where Jim and Carol raised their two sons, Mark and David. His commitment to the community included serving on the city council, elder at Grace Lutheran church and being a volunteer Fire fighter.
Jim and Carol’s most recent stop took them to Louisville, Colorado where they again embraced their new home. Jim and Carol spent many years of involvement at the Louisville Senior Center and received awards for volunteering with Circle of Care, actively transporting seniors to numerous cultural events in Boulder County. Jim spent his retirement years developing many new Louisville friends who often listened to his tall tales in the coffee shops around town.
Jim lived a very happy life, including celebrating 57 years of marriage.
Jim is survived by his loving family including his wife Carol, Sister Patty Earhart, Brother Bob (Laurette), sons Mark (Debbie), David (Kari); grandchildren Zach and Hailey.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Sunday January 8th at Eternal Savior Lutheran church in Lafayette, CO 80026
