James's obituary

James (Jim) Roy Porter 1962-2021

Jim passed away suddenly at his home in Mississippi, USA, on November 8, 2021, due to lung complications from Scleroderma, a rare autoimmune disease. Cremation has taken place. His ashes will be sent to Canada where a celebration of Jim's life will occur in Waterloo, ON at a later date.

Sadly missed by his mother Heather, his wife Vicki, his children Caitlin, Christopher and Timothy and their mother (Jacqueline); his brother David (Stephanie, Raya and Greyson); his step son and grandchild (Nicholas and Jacob), his aunt Susan Brown; cousins Janet and Alexander; and his friends and colleagues.

Jim was born in Toronto, ON and grew up in Waterloo and Kitchener. He graduated from Forest Heights Collegiate, Kitchener, and the University of Waterloo, Mechanical Engineering. After several years in engineering practice, Jim founded Eppcon Systems Inc. in 1989 and was its President until August 2014. He then joined ATS Automation as a Senior Field Service Representative where he was able to focus on his true passion, solving complex engineering problems.

Jim also loved sailing, Monty Python, astronomy, reading quantum physics in his spare time, and, best of all, his family.

Donations in Jim's memory may be made to the Scleroderma Society of Ontario or the Scleroderma Foundation in the USA.
