James's obituary

Our beloved dad, James Patten Everett, journeyed on early in the morning October 30th, 2024. He was born on April 9th, 1943 to longtime Athenians Harry and Flossie Everett (both now deceased). In his last days we were all together - laughing, crying, and sharing stories.

He was married to Nirvana Lea Blowers, love of his life, and preceded in death by her as well as his granddaughter Callie Nirvana Crosby. We like to think that our mom and Callie danced him home to a joyful reunion.

Born and raised in Athens, you may remember Jim. He was a sign painter and artist by profession. Before the days of plastic and magnetic signs, he painted shop windows, billboards, and murals. His last sign is a little landmark on Columbus Rd. at the Dental Depot. He was usually accompanied by his dogs, Oscar, and then Louie, who was well known for his comical “caution tape” collar.

His hobbies were cloud watching, painting with his grandkids, and contemplating the meaning of life. NPR was always playing in the kitchen, and he played the blues harmonica. He loved family get-togethers, and he was happiest in the company of family and friends.

He deeply loved his children, Rachel Everett, Noelle Everett, and Christian Everett; his grandchildren, Angel Metcalf, Grace Andrews, Callie Crosby, and Ava and Zoe Everett; and his great grandchildren, Kaydrian, Noah, Kasen, Josi’Jah, Athena’Rose, and Leo’Nijah.

We all miss him deeply, but we’re so grateful for the love we shared and for the strength he gave us. We will all celebrate Jim on April 11th. If you’d like to join us or send us a card, please email Rachel at usahgirl@yahoo.com.
