James's obituary

James Otis Morgan, Jr. age 95, went to be with the Lord on September 2, 2024. He is survived by his daughters Julie Morgan Steadley (Scott) and Tricia Morgan Brown, and three grandchildren - Jenny, Katie, and Ben. He is predeceased by his wife Laura Heitman Morgan and son-in-law George W. Brown.

Jim attended Armstrong Junior College, Mercer University, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where he met Laura.  They served in numerous churches as Educational Director.  He directed the Baptist Goodwill Center in Charleston SC, was Director of Charleston Social Ministries with the Charleston Baptist Association, and served as International Seamen’s Ministry Director for the Charleston Ports Authority.  In 1977 Jim and Laura were appointed as full time missionaries with the North American Mission Board. He also served as “interim” pastor of Allendale Presbyterian Church for 22 years

Jim’s demeanor illuminated every room he entered, and he was known for his profound wisdom, selflessness, and ever-persistent sense of humor. He loved his Lord and served Him well.  He leaves behind a legacy of immense love and endearing memories.

A “Celebration Of Life” will be held Sunday, September 29, 3:00 pm, at “Chapel In The Gardens” (93 Main St. Garden City GA).  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Wycliffe Bible Translators.
