April 29, 1962 - November 15, 2021
James "Jimi" Onka, 59, of Sugar Creek, MO, passed away unexpectedly on November 15, 2021.
Jimi is survived by his daughters Jamie and Nika Onka (Kenneth Figgins); along with grandchildren Abel James and Chance Wayne Figgins, mother, Mary Agnes, sisters, Jacalyn Onka Johnson Dubay (Christopher), Jane Frances Onka Vaughn (Kevin) and niece, Francine Onka Vaughn. Preceded in death by his father, John Joseph Onka Jr. and brother, John Joseph Onka III.
Jimi’s life was devoted to his mother, daughters and grandsons. He was an expert mechanic with over 30 years of experience. Jimi loved nature and the outdoors; so much so that he filled his home with many types of plants, and his garden was an arboretum. With his carvings Jimi could find and release all the figures hidden in a piece of wood. He was a deep thinker and artist who found symbolism in every grain of life, and enjoyed giving his insights and artwork to family and friends. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
A Rosary, followed by a Mass in his honor will be held from 10:30 – 12 pm on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church, 10021 E. 36th Terr. S. Independence, MO., and a celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date in the spring.
The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to his grandson’s education fund in his honor.
