The 1st time I ever met James he was an 18 year old college freshman straight out of Aurora, who had found himself in iola, Kansas of all places.  He was in a meeting of incoming soccer players inside a classroom at Allen County Community College.  I was a 1st year assistant coach, so we were both in a completely "foreign" environment.  All the players were sitting at their desks, and the coaching staff asked each player to stand up and tell us where they were from.  We had players from England, Kansas, Louisiana and other places there.  I will never forget the words that came out of his mouth.  James stands up in front of all these people with that smile that he had (some players, some parents), and says, "I'm James Nixon from Aurora, Colorado.... but you can call me 'Black Magic'".  From then on in Kansas--- dude was known as "Magic".  I miss James a lot.  I think about him quite a bit.  He was one of a kind.  He brought so much light to the world.  Seeing the pictures of him with his buddies in Colorado touches my heart, because I know those cats in the photos got to experience a great friendship and companionship with a true soul.  I pray for James family and hope that everyone out there will remember the good times that we shared with the special man that was James "Magic" Nixon!  Love you James!
James is a special person in my life. He is always with us and his laughter and joy is undeniable. He is my friend, my goalie and a coach. The last tournament I won as a coach was with James in Albuquerque. We drove together through the mountain storm to victory. We then saw those boys win a title in High School as seniors. He loved his family, friends and the game. His love was felt then and is felt now. God Bless

James taught me how to watch soccer, I just couldn’t do it previously…. James said ‘pick one guy, that’s your guy and just focus on him’ and I’ll be damned it all made sense after that. I never won a dice game with James, and he would ask ‘are you sure Dave? Are you sure?!’ Never even won a bet on football with James…. But I never stopped trying because watching a game when James had them 3 smokers going was all the winning I needed. Miss you my dude, think about you a lot.

Connected with James in 1992, where we bonded over sports, strong-families, amazing mothers, and no father-figure. James was a loving individual, with the energy and aura to provide sunshine on the darkest day. James was the epitome of a giver, and the ultimate competitor. What a blessing it was, James!

God Blessed us all when he put James in our lives.  He was kind and gentle.   He didn't even have to open his mouth to express himself.  Those deep, brown, beautiful and rich eyes told 1,000 stories.     Those of you that were fortunate enough to look into them could tell by just a quick glance, what kind of man James was.  He spoke with a deep, welcoming voice.  Stern, yet calming.  His laugh was hearty, and his smile was wide and vibrant.  Mere words could never do justice in explaining your impact on the people who came in contact with you Magic.  I love you so much, and so thoroughly man.  Even now, your friendship will motivate me to be a better person daily, so that one day we might see each other again!  Thank you for the love that you reflected in this world James!  You were a bright light in a dark world.  My life was enriched through knowing and loving you.  Peace Brother!
I remember hanging out at work and outside of work we had some great time it sad you are gone so soon you had so much more to do you'll never be forgotten
I remember when you, Woodie and I went to Papadeux for lunch and you ordered lobster by the pound. When you saw the bill after eating that giant lobster… I couldn’t stop laughing. I’ll miss you, man.
