Tom's obituary

On June 10th, 2021, James Thomas “Tom” Nance passed away at age 71 at home in Payne Springs, Texas.

Tom was born on October 17th, 1949, in Pecos, TX, to Pete and Lela (Kelly) Nance.

In 1971, he received a degree in Industrial Arts from Sul Ross State University, where he also excelled as an athlete, playing tennis.

Tom was never idle and enjoyed being outdoors and on the go. Always one to have a project to work on, he passed on his strong work ethic to his children. Throughout his life he worked in a variety of transportation and agricultural fields. He prided himself on being an honest and hardworking man and he never backed down from a challenge.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Pete, and his mother, Lela. He is survived by three children, Shanna Nance and husband Sean Pierce, Shane Nance, and Angela Nance and husband Joel Dykstra, and by one step-son, Matthew Dunn and wife Diamond. He was also survived by 6 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren as well as his sisters Polly Nance, and Gail Criswell and husband Jim.

A celebration of his life and reflection upon our memories of him will be held on Saturday, August 21st, 2021, at Reeves County Civic Center from 2:00PM to 4:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the West of the Pecos Museum, The Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame in Pecos, or the charity of your choice.
