James's obituary
James Mims, a devoted family man and hardworking individual, was born on November 24, 1936, and sadly passed away on October 2, 2025. James was known for his caring nature and strong work ethic. His loss will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
James was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorthy Easterling, and his grandson, David Griffin. He is survived by his two sons, James Easterling and Ira Easterling, and his daughter, Evangeline Griffin. His daughter-in-law, Tammy Easterling, also mourns his passing. James was the proud grandfather of Kelly Easterling, Jacob Church, Bryant Church, Eathan Church, and Christopher Griffin.
James was a regular attendee at New Covenant Baptist Church, where he found great comfort and community. His faith was an important part of his life and provided him with strength and solace.
Through hard work and dedication, James achieved great accomplishments in his lifetime. Among these, he was especially proud of his career at the Avendale Cotton Gin, where he maintained perfect attendance for an impressive 45 years. Yet, his greatest accomplishment by far was the loving family he raised and the legacy he leaves behind.
To say James will be missed is an understatement. His loving and caring personality touched everyone he met. He was not just a fantastic husband, father, and grandfather, but a friend to many. His kindness will forever be remembered by those who knew him, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
