Jim's obituary

James Michael Gibson, “Jim”, age 67, passed away peacefully in the arms of the Lord at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Monday, July 24th, 2023, after a battle with cancer.

Jim was born on October 7th, 1955, to Ralph and Julia (Pomilio) Gibson. He is survived by his wife, Debbie of 35 years, his son, Travis Lamb, his daughter in-law, Theresa Lamb, his grandchildren, William, and Savannah.

Jim is preceded by two sisters, Jan Spear (Bob), and JoAnn Sczech; one niece, Cami Silver (Robin), two nephews, Carl Ferguson (children, Blake and Brooke, wife Jeni), and Joey Sczech (children, Ella and Alex, wife, Jill); one great niece, Nora (Blake).

Jim was a proud Vietnam Veteran serving in the Navy on the USS Enterprise.

He worked hard throughout his career of 45 years as a Truck Driver, Owner-Operator of James Gang Trucking, and an Instructor and a Manager with Trans Tech - Charlotte Diesel Truck Driving School.

After retiring with NFI Industries, Inc. (formally G&P Trucking) as a Driver Improvement Coordinator, Jim’s retired life consisted of traveling and exploring the country with his wife, Debbie in their RV, and spending summers in MN with his son’s family. He truly found happiness in retirement!

Jim met friends wherever he went and helped people along the way. He shared his knowledge and humor in many ways. He will be remembered for his thoughtful advice, problem solving, deep love, and strong desire to protect and honor his family. Jim was a dedicated Husband, Father, and Grandpa to his family.

Jim married into a blended family including his wife’s stepson, Stan Lamb (children, Caroline and Charlotte, wife, Honour). Jim considered them family. They loved Grumpy Jim very much.

Jim was a member of The American Legion and The Patriot Guard Riders in South Carolina where he rode his motorcycle to shield families of fallen heroes from those that would disrupt the services of their loved ones. He participated with Wreaths across America to deliver wreaths to South Carolina cemeteries.

The Last Role Call Ceremony of Remembrance, Honoring and Remembering Veterans Passed, will be held at the Chapel of the Minneapolis VA Hospital, 1 Veterans Dr., Fort Snelling, Minnesota on Friday, September 1st at 1:30 pm to honor Jim.

A Celebration of Life will take place at The Fish Market, 990 Market St, Fort Mill, SC  29708
