James Thomas Mattison, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 29th, 2024.

Born November 19th, 1952 to James H. & Marjorie Mattison, James enjoyed a rambunctious childhood in Pleasant Ridge with his brothers Michael and Gary. Eventually, starting a family of his own, James raised his son Kevin and daughters Jennifer and Emily in Oak Park with his then wife, Lorraine. His second marriage to his loving wife of 24 years, Suzanne in Berkley, gave him two stepchildren, Matthew and Zachary. He was blessed with four grandchildren, Nikhil, Niam, Troian, and Julia, and a wonderful extended family of in-laws, Neesha, Ronald, and Justin.

As a young man, James was an athlete and avid learner; later developing a deep love of music and golf. As a passionate outdoorsman, James always looked forward to his annual fishing trips up north with friends. He enjoyed regular lunches with his daughters Jennifer &  Emily, sharing vinyl records with his son Kevin, and being exhausted by his energetic grandchildren. He shared a love of sports and long conversations with his stepson Matthew. His stepson Zachary shared time with him on many school field trips and building things together. His presence will forever be missed by his friends and family, but he will never be forgotten. The wave returns to the water, where it was always meant to be.

A visitation and memorial service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church (143 Albany St. Ferndale, MI) on February 10th, 2024. Visitation 10-11 AM, with a memorial service immediately following.
