James's obituary

It is with a profound sense of loss and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James "Gator, Matty" Lee, lovingly known as Matt or Matty, who left this earth on October 22, 2023. Born on April 27, 1971, he was a beacon of light in our lives. His inimitable spirit indelibly imprinted on those who had the privilege to know him.

Matty left behind his mother and father, Martha J. and Bob Lee, an aunt Roberta Lee Cromer, all of Roanoke, VA. Matt also is survived by his beloved Thor, a Tegu and his spiritual family Ryan, Leigha “Luna”, Penellope and Annabelle Lopez of Jacksonville, FL. It would be remiss not to mention all his friends that loved him like a brother, but the amount to list could fill all the pages of a storybook.

Matty was the embodiment of love. He was a man of great honor; his protective ways made us feel safe, and his sense of generosity knew no bounds. He had an infectious goofiness, that endeared him to all, and he exuded positivity.

He consistently imparted life-changing lessons, teaching us to cherish happiness regardless of the circumstances, reminding us not to fret over trivial matters, and encouraging us to share hugs without reservation. Matt embodied the essence of life by dancing through it and reminding us of the sacred balance of light and darkness, both of which, he believed, are Divine.

Throughout his life, James achieved remarkable feats. He guided dozens of families seeking spiritual solace over the course of 33 years, undertook a missionary trip in the Dominican Republic where he mastered Spanish as smoothly as he could salsa. In the wake of the World Trade Centers' tragedy, his spirit of service shone bright as he assisted in the cleanup operations.

James' legacy is one of selflessness, generosity, and an unwavering devotion to his loved ones. He left an indelible mark on communities stretching across Northeast Florida. The void left by his physical absence will be deeply felt, and he will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, we invite you to donate to "Help with Celebration of Life Expenses" which can be found at the following URL: https://everloved.com/life-of…. This initiative personifies James’ spirit of love and generosity and celebrates the remarkable life he led.
