James's obituary

James (Jimmy) Forrest Mathis, 64, passed away on December 2, 2020. Jim was born on November 6, 1956, in Bakersfield, California. He was the first of six children born to James and Helen Mathis. In 1975, Jim graduated from Arvin Union High School. He started working for his dad James, driving trucks right after High School. Which was his occupation for over 40 years, finally retiring from US Food Service. During that time he helped raise three daughters, one of his many accomplishments in life. In 2005, Jim met Debbie after moving to Glennville, CA and the rest was history. The two were married in a small ceremony in 2006 and built their dream home together where many memories have been made with their family. Jim was a great father and loved being a grandfather, all his grandkids know him as Papa Jim. The man that would dress up as Santa just to see his grandbabies smile. He loved to socialize and he was an active participant in Glennville’s community. Jim would talk to everyone, no one was a stranger. But what Jim loved most was his family. He looked forward to get-togethers with loved ones from near and far. He was a kind and caring man with a lot of stubbornness sprinkled in (which we wouldn’t change a bit). He united the family in his role as matriarch and will be missed by many. Jim was preceded in death by his: Father (James Mathis), Mother (Helen Mathis), and brother (Jamey Mathis). He is survived by his wife Debbie Mathis and six children; Stacey Amick, Mike England, Brenna Mathis, Jessica Queen, Paige Mathis, and Caitlin Mathis, 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, his beloved brother Greg, his sisters Karen, Carolyn and Emily, and countless nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to everyone that has reached out.
