James's obituary

James Atwell Lattimore passed away peacefully on November 26th, 2021 in Buena Vista, GA at the Magnolia Manor Nursing Home, where he was cared for dearly by Nurse Stephanie Smith. He was born on September 2nd, 1927 to the late Eula Mae and Alonzo Lattimore in Shelby, North Carolina.  Eula Mae and Alonzo had 9 children,  two daughters, and seven sons.  James was the second to last of the children and his siblings preceded him in death.

In 1946, James joined the United States Army where he would serve our country proudly for several years.  After he was honorably discharged from the Army he moved to Harlem, New York.  In 1959 he married his first wife the late Mrs. Lucille Lattimore in Brooklyn, New York.  Their marriage produced two children, his loving daughter Maxina and his late son Don Mitchell.

Years later James met and married the late Mrs. Dorothy DeRoche Lattimore who was a parent to James DeRoche his stepson.  James and Dorothy subsequently relocated to Buena Vista, Georgia where he joined the St. Mark's Baptist Church where he would proudly serve as Deacon for twenty-seven years.

James was often seen mowing his lawn or enjoying time with his extended family.  He is survived by his Daughter, Maxina Lattimore,  Son in Law Clarence E Brown, Stepson James DeRoche, Granddaughter Nikita Marie Lattimore-Martin, Grand Son-In-Law Michael Martin, Grandson Travis McCord,  Grandaughters Janae DeRoche and Alana Fortune.  Two Great-grandchildren Michael-Jalen and Madison Leigh Martin and a host of family and friends.  He will be sorely missed.

The family would like to thank The Magnolia Manor and it's staff for the care provided to our loved one over the last two years.

For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. - Psalm 91:11

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. – Matthew 5:4
