James's obituary
James Shintin Kong, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2024 in the Bay Area, California. James was born in Hainan, China and grew up in Malaysia where he met and married Helen in 1975. Together, they raised three children, Chris, Wendy, and Nick, before immigrating to Brooklyn, New York in 1989.
James believed in the power of education and hard work to pave the way for success. Using his International Trading degree from Feng Chia University in Taiwan, he built a real estate business with his wife in Malaysia before immigrating to the United States. Together with his wife, he selflessly dedicated himself to ensure his kids graduated from college. Through many years of diligence, dedication, and perseverance, he laid the foundation for his children to pursue their career goals and have families of their own.
James is survived by loving wife, Helen; devoted children, Chris Kong (eldest son) & Mandy Chen (daughter-in-law), Wendy Kong (daughter) & Sam Van (son-in-law), Nick Kong (youngest son) & Kelly Kong (daughter-in-law); cherished granddaughters, Ellie Kong and Madison Van; siblings and extended family in the United States, Malaysia, Brunei, Hong Kong, and China.
A memorial service to celebrate James's life will be held on March 26, 2024 at Skylawn Funeral Home, from 10:30 - 12:30PM. A luncheon reception will be held afterwards at Grand Harbor Restaurant (for planning purposes, we ask that you RSVP in the link https://everloved.com/life-of…) Flowers may be sent directly to the funeral home on the day of the service.
