My dad JJ passed away Friday, January 24, 2025. I found him unresponsive in a seizure the previous Sunday, front door wide open. His initial diagnosis was hypothermia along with a massive drop in blood sugar. After 3 days of being in ICU, there was still no brain activity and his organs had started to shut down. The hospital staff informed the family that if he did start to have any brain activity, the chances of him surviving the necessary surgeries (trach, feeding tube, and multiple amputations due to frost bite) were very slim. He would have severe cognitive impairment, few, if any, fingers, and neither legs below the knee, along with being on a respirator the rest of his life. We decided he would not want to live like that so on Wednesday, we made the tough decision to take him off of life support. He made it 48 more hours on his own before he took his last breath. From the time he was admitted to the hospital until his final moments, he was not left alone, even for a second. His brother Rob, his sister Sheryl, his niece Megan and great niece Leilah, as well as myself (his daughter) and my fiance were by his side through the whole thing, along with the many friends and family members that came to visit. He unfortunately did not have life insurance or any kind of burial plans, so I am seeking assistance to pay for his cremation. We will not be having a funeral service, but rather a Celebration of Life in April for what would have been his 60th birthday.
