James Markwood Hunt, 78, of Apollo Beach, Florida (previously of Hatboro, Pennsylvania) passed away on September 27, 2021 after a neurological decline caused by COVID-19. Jim was born in 1943 to Betty Elaine Hunt (nee Dobson) and Ralph Markwood Hunt in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After graduating from North Hills High School in 1961, he went on to study Economics at Virginia Tech. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force. He served two tours of service in Vietnam as a pilot and flew 185 missions over Vietnam. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for a mission he captained under fire to evacuate wounded. After completion of his service in 1971, he attended graduate school at the University of Dayton and University of Cincinnati. He completed a Ph.D. in Marketing and Consumer Behavior in 1981. He taught at University of Florida and then went on to teach at Temple University in Philadelphia, retiring in 2017.
In 1979, he met Sarah "Sally" Shank, and they wed in 1980, going on to have two children, Stephanie Hunt and Amy Hunt. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world and he was unendingly proud of Stephanie, Amy, and Sally. Jim was also a passionate birder and hiker and frequently visited various locations to bird. His favorites included Cape May, Forsythe Wildlife Preserve, Militia Hill Hawk Watch, and Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. He was an activist for the causes of peace, justice, and equality. Anyone who knew Jim knew that he was passionate about his family, the Steelers, and the Phillies.
He is survived by his wife Sarah Hunt, his daughters Stephanie Hunt and Amy Hunt, his sister Joan Frankel, his brother Robert Hunt, a cousin, and many nieces, nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial Meeting for Worship on November 13 at 12:00 at Horsham Friends Meeting in Horsham, Pennsylvania.
