James's obituary
In Loving Memory of James D. Holmes III
James was a cherished father, grandfather, partner, and friend whose spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
James was not just a pastry chef; he was an artist whose beautiful wedding cakes reflected his profound creativity and passionate dedication. For over 22 years, he served as the Executive Pastry Chef at the Westin Crown Center, delighting countless individuals with his confectionary masterpieces. Later, he fulfilled his lifelong aspiration by acquiring the renowned Napoleon Bakery, continuing to spread his joy for baking throughout the community.
At the core of our family, James's love was a guiding force that will endure through us all. Beyond his culinary talents, he nurtured a profound affection for cars, building a collection that showcased his appreciation for craftsmanship. His enthusiasm for automobiles was infectious, bringing people together and inspiring conversations about precision and artistry.
As a son, James embraced a profound sense of duty and tenderness towards his mother, Jeanette. His devotion was unwavering, always ensuring her needs were met out of deep love and gratitude. In every moment shared—whether in joy or sorrow—he provided unwavering support, creating a bond anchored in mutual respect and an understanding that family is a treasure.
As a father, James poured unconditional love into his children, Taylor (Blake), James IV, and Step daughter Cydney. His fierce protection and selflessness were unmatched; he always prioritized their needs, often at the expense of his own comfort. The kitchen was a sacred space for him, a place where he delighted in teaching his kids the art of cake-making, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love.
As a grandfather, James showered his granddaughter Blayde with a love that was pure and profound. He had a unique way of making her feel like a princess, crafting memories that will be cherished for a lifetime. The legacy of his love as 'Grandpaw' will echo through generations in every warm hug, joyous laugh, and beautiful moment they shared.
As a friend, James was a remarkable spirit who shared a deep bond with Renita, with whom he spent 12 wonderful years cooking and creating together. His ability to make people feel seen and valued was extraordinary; whether through a simple smile or thoughtful gesture, he ensured everyone felt important. The friendships he cultivated were built on a foundation of trust, and his generosity knew no bounds.
Remember Me
To the living, I am gone,
To the sorrowful, I will never return,
To the angry, I was cheated,
But to the happy, I am at peace,
And to the faithful, I have never left.
I cannot speak, but I can listen.
I cannot be seen, but I can be heard.
So as you stand upon a shore gazing at a beautiful sea,
As you look upon a flower and admire its simplicity,
Remember me.
Remember me in your heart:
In your thoughts and memories,
In the times we loved,
The times we cried,
The times we fought,
The times we laughed.
For if you always think of me, I will never have gone.
