James's obituary

James Patrick “Jimmy” Halstead, 70, passed away on June 16, 2025, in Hyattsville, Maryland. Born on October 3, 1954, in Washington, D.C., Jimmy lived a life full of color, character, and connection.

A gifted painter and skilled mechanic, Jimmy combined skill with craftsmanship throughout his life. Whether working under the hood of a car or refinishing a wall, he brought passion and ingenuity to everything he did. His love for cars extended beyond the garage—he was a true car enthusiast who found joy in every rev of an engine and every gleam of polished chrome.

Jimmy’s welcoming nature was one of his most defining traits. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to make anyone feel like an old friend right away. His great sense of humor lit up every room he entered, and his laughter was as memorable as his stories. A proud motorcycle rider, he embraced the open road with the same spirit he brought to all aspects of his life—boldly and with heart.

Above all else, Jimmy was a family man. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Linda; his son James Howard and his partner Karen, daughter Patricia and Edward, son Benjamin and his wife Abigail, daughter Rebecca and her husband William; and his cherished grandchildren James Christopher, Gregory, Vivien, Valerie, Melanie, Kathryn, Charles, and Olivia and great grandson Elijah. He also leaves behind his beloved sisters Kathleen and her husband Aubrey and Eileen and her husband Mark. He will also be sorely missed by his multitude of friends and acquaintances, especially David and Ellen Miller, Richard Miller, Anne And Greg Walsh, Dave Bennet, Donnie Murtagh and so so many more.

May the memory of James Patrick “Jimmy” Halstead bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire warmth, laughter, and love in their hearts. A Viewing will be held on June 28, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 04:00 PM at Gasch's Funeral Home 4739 Baltimore Ave. Light refreshments will be provided during the service hours.
