James's obituary
James was born to Marcus & Sarah Gentry on September 4, 1920 in Sardis, Mississippi. Young James left home at the age of 13 after his mother was killed and was forced to learn early in his life the importance of self reliance. Through his early years he developed the gift of creativity and flexibility. The life's journey of James H. Gentry included a period of time in the military, extensive travel and a variety of work experiences which led to his unique entrepreneurial spirit and drive. After attending and completing barber college, he was able to use his skill as a barber to accompany his wife Ora Gentry a beautician in their Beauty Shop that he later assisted in building for his wife, called
Gentry's Style Shop". His life and work continued to be varied from Teaching school to selling Watkins products while raising a family buying two homes and owning multiple vehicles. All of this after having been told by doctors in the early 50's that he would likely not live another two years. In his words "There is ALWAYS SOMETHING that you can do and you NEVER know how things are gonna turn out" There was never a dull moment in his life.
James met his second wife, to be, Ora B. Terrell on December 25, 1951 and said he knew that day, that he wanted to marry her. They met in Baltimore, Maryland. They married October 4, 1952 and had their first child together in 1954 Marcus Clifton Gentry. They were married for 60 years.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving Husband and Father, James symbolized his dedication to Jehovah by becoming a baptized member of Jehovah's Witnesses in the early 1950's. As one of Jehovah's witnesses he moved his family to where there was a need to spread "The Good News" which included Woonsocket, RI. Providence, RI, Baltimore, Md, and Thomson, Ga where he remained till passing. James also loved sharing with friends, strangers, family and anyone that he came in contact with, what he learned from the Bible about the promise of a paradise and the bibles hope of a resurrections. . After becoming one of Jehovah's witnesses, he studied the bible with hundreds of people, gave many Talks and attended meetings and conventions across the nation to learn and share promises of the bible. James held an unwavering faith in Jehovah's Promise of a time when "death would be no more and every tear would be wiped from their eyes",
James now joins his wife of 60 years who passed away October 7, 2012 . He is survived by his son Marcus Clifton Gentry , Step- Son Henry Simmons , Grandchildren Rayna , Raytrece, Ezrina, Gregory, Linda and a host of great grand children, nieces, nephews and other family and loved ones.
