Jim's obituary
James Edmund Kelley, age 68, of Taunton, MA, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his family on March 18, 2026, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Roxbury, MA, after a brief illness. Born on November 11, 1957, in New Bedford, MA, Jim was the beloved son of the late George Kelley and Edith (Kenyon) Bariteau.
Jim pursued his education at Greenfield Community College and later at Bridgewater State University, where he earned an associate's degree. He dedicated his professional life to the world of sports, serving as a facilities manager for FMC Ice Sports, and fulfilling his passion as a hockey and track & field coach. A true mentor at heart, Jim founded the Personal Best Track Club, where he inspired countless young athletes, including his nephew Sean Kelley, who proudly competed on the 4x800 team that won nationals. His kindness and generosity shone brightly, as he often provided support to children in need, ensuring they had the necessary resources to participate in sports. Anyone that knew Jim recognized his genuine kindness, and most of all his beautiful, huge heart.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Jim served honorably in the United States Air Force from December 5, 1980, to December 4, 1984. His service took him around the globe, including stints in Guam, Okinawa, and England, where he proudly held the rank of Sergeant.
Jim leaves behind a loving family, including his brother Michael Kelley and sister-in-law Dianne, Erin Pepin and her husband Brian, their children Kaleigh and Andrew, nephew Sean Kelley and his wife Caryn, and their children Allyson and Tyler. He is also survived by numerous cousins and an extensive network of friends who cherished him as family.
A celebration of Jim's life, honoring his profound impact on those around him, will be held on Saturday May 9th at the Fireside in Middleboro to all who wish to pay their respects. In this time of sorrow, let us remember and celebrate the warmth, kindness, and indomitable spirit that defined James Edmund Kelley.
