James's obituary

James Edward Duffy May 2, 1949-July 3, 2020

US Army Retired Jim "Duffy" is remembered as a war hero, husband, father, and friend to many. Born on May 2, 1949, Jim spent his life serving his country. During his 26 years of service with the US Army, the Vietnam Veteran achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class with accomplishments and accolades including The Vietnam Gallantry, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Army Commendation Medal, US Army Gold Recruiter Badge, and many more.

But, the title he most proudly wore was that of husband to Debbie for 44 years. Jim and Debbie met in 1975 and were married on February 3, 1976. The two made their home anywhere from California to New York, transferring every couple of years. Along the journey, they gained the title of parents to Travis and Jeanie. The couple moved to Texas in 2016, where they owned and operated Duffy's Burgers and Bait until 2019.

Jim loved fishing, gambling, his family, and above all, his country.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Duffy, and his mother, Martha Sara Jean Hunter.

He is survived in life by wife Debra Duffy; children and spouses Travis and Kim Duffy, and Jeanie Duffy and Bobbie Swaim; grandchildren Leanne, Rebecca, Conner, Mackenzie, and Baylee; and brother and sister-in-law Tom and Patty Duffy. His legacy and memory live on.

The family will celebrate Jim's life in a private lakeside ceremony with Toby Slough officiating on July 16, 2020. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Ranch Hands Rescue Human & Animal Sanctuary.
