James's obituary

James “Ray” Dowdy, 90, of Satsuma, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at his home following an extended illness. He was a native of Vidalia, GA and had returned to Putnam County 2 years ago coming from Lake City. Ray served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years and was a member of Victory House, formerly Victory Christian Fellowship. In 1973, he purchased Ditto's Saw Shop and operated the business as Dowdy's Saw Shop for 27 years. In his leisure time, Ray enjoyed going fishing.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Marvin Dowdy and Martha Mabel Polk Dowdy.

He is survived by his children, Jim Dowdy of Stone Mountain, GA, Greg Dowdy of Satsuma, Kay Peoples (Thomas) of Jefferson, GA and Jinger Dowdy of Pensacola, FL, sisters, Dot Galbreath of Vidalia, GA, Jewel Horne of Greeneville, TN, and Pat Hahn of Mooresville, NC, mother of his children, Johnnie Dowdy of Satsuma, 8 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka. Burial will take place in Center Cemetery in Vidalia, GA at a later date. No public visitation is scheduled.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Victory House, 418 Hwy 17 S, East Palatka, FL 32131.
