James's obituary
Jim, 70, of Silver Lake, KS passed away on Wednesday, September 26th, 2018. He was the widower of the love of his life Elizabeth “Annette” Diggs. They shared 38 years of marriage.
Born on July 27th, 1948, he was the son of Murrell Diggs and JoAnn (Nakis) Diggs. A graduate from Washburn Rural High School. Jim attended Baker University. He worked for Goodyear and retired after 42 years. He also owned a concrete business and a trucking company over the years.
Jim was a hard working, selflessly devoted husband, father, pampa and paw paw. One of the best. He had the biggest heart. He had an amazing sense of humor and would often laugh at his own jokes. His laugh was infectious. Jim was witty and charming. He would often say “you won’t ever meet anyone smarter”. He loved to be with his children and grandchildren. He loved to travel. He was a wilderness explorer and adventurer, traveling the US in his camper and jeep, taking anyone he could convince to go. He loved to fish but loved to eat his catch even more. He was a lover of oldies and had been known to often sing louder than the radio. He loved to debate when it came to politics or anything he was passionate about (just ask his brother). He was a self taught mechanic and always had a project going. He was a huge Nascar fan. His favorite pastime was to sit and watch his races. He loved bbq. He would build smokers and have competitions with his boys. He lead by example and was a dad and friend to many. He made us feel home. Although he still had a lot planned, he lived a full life. We know in our hearts he was saying “Adios Amigos, I’m outta here” and went home to be with his sweetheart.
He is survived by his brother, Mickey Diggs of Topeka, KS; Children Denise (Blake) Griffin, 48, Birmingham, AL, Lisa (Larry) Eisenhauer, 44, Iuka, KS, Brian (Michelle) 43 El Paso, TX, Shelbie Mcpherson, 42, Topeka, KS, Ronnie (Brandy) Mcpherson, 40, Topeka, KS, and Maria (Robert) Bosch, 33, Silver Lake, KS, 14 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by wife, Elizabeth “Annette” Diggs, daughter Jennifer Jo Diggs, mother JoAnn (Nikas) Diggs, father Murrell Diggs and brother Robert Diggs.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 6th at 12pm at Lakeside Baptist Church in Silver Lake, KS with a reception immediately following.
