James's obituary

James Colby Smith, 25, tragically passed away on November 14, 2024, in Akron, Ohio. Born on October 30, 1999, to Marie Hauck and Daniel Smith, James grew up in the rugged beauty of Montana, where he built the foundation of his adventurous and resilient spirit.

Less than six months ago, James made the courageous decision to move to Akron, Ohio, seeking to forge a new path and better his life. His journey was marked by struggles that most could scarcely imagine, but through each challenge, James exhibited a strength and perseverance that inspired those around him.

James had a heart of gold, fiercely loyal and unwaveringly principled. He stood up for what he believed in and expected honesty and integrity in return from those he trusted. His energy was infectious, and his presence lit up every room he entered. He was deeply loved by those who had the privilege of knowing him, and his impact on their lives will be forever cherished.

James found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved riding his motorcycle at top speed, listening to music by Mac Streets, Kevin Gates, and his favorite country artists. Summers were spent picking huckleberries, and winters were for drifting his car. James had a natural talent for mechanics and a passion for learning new skills. He also had a tender side, demonstrated by his love for animals, especially the many kittens he rescued throughout his life.

James is now reunited with those who went before him, including his grandmother Alice Alsop, grandfather Perry, uncle Robert Alsop, and his paternal grandfather Clyde Smith, along with many dear friends.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his mother, Marie Dandrea; his brother, Mathew Hauck; his stepfather, Lance Mickelson; his father, Daniel Smith; his stepmother, Rachel Smith; and his many brothers and sisters.

James lived a vibrant and powerful life, attracting people with his magnetic spirit and leaving an indelible mark on all who crossed his path. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In honor of James, the family encourages acts of kindness to animals or contributions to local rescue shelters in his memory.
