James Charles Whitney (age 89) died on 4/10/2024 in South Bend, Indiana. Jim was born in Huntington, West Virginia and he is the son of Chester Ray Whitney and Morene McGuinness.

Charlie enjoyed working in his greenhouse, watching documentaries, and chatting about history. He also enjoyed making beautiful pieces of art using balsam wood. Before he retired, Jim managed the Hope Rescue Mission kitchen in South Bend, Indiana.

Jim is survived by 5 of his children: James Charles Whitney Jr. of Savannah, Tennessee, Robert Thorton Whitney of San Diego, California, Thomas Gregory Whitney of Terra Haute, Indiana, Mary Teresa Opfer (Whitney) of South Bend, Indiana and Theodore Gresham Whitney of Lynchburg, Virginia. Charlie had 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Chester Ray Whitney, Jr. His children who preceded him in death are: Jamesetta Collette Whitney, Jeffrey Andrew Whitney, Timothy Samuel Whitney, John and Peter Whitney.
