Jim's obituary
In Loving Memory of James "Jim" Champoux
May 23, 1964 – May 05, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James “Jim” Champoux, who left us on May 05, 2025.
Jim was born on May 23, 1964, in Terrace, British Columbia, to Leonard (predeceased in 2016) and Patricia Champoux (nee McElory). He grew up with his two sisters, Barbara Caesar and Susan Petersen, and was always surrounded by a large and loving extended family. Along with his mother Patricia, Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sarah Champoux (née Sidenius), and their two daughters, Megan Champoux (25) and Paige Champoux (21). He will be fondly remembered by his many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and a wide circle of friends.
Jim spent most of his life on Vancouver Island, graduating from Cowichan Senior Secondary in 1982. In 1985, while in Yellowknife, NWT, he met Sarah. They married on December 6, 1989, and spent several years in the North before settling back on the Island. There, they built a life on a beautiful 20-acre property where they ran an excavating business and a riding school — a reflection of Jim’s hard work, dedication, and love of the outdoors.
In 2009, the family moved to the Langley area, where they have lived ever since. Jim had a zest for life and a love of travel, exploring many parts of the world with his family. He enjoyed playing squash and baseball and was never without a canine companion. He shared a special bond with his dogs, especially his beloved Kodi, whom he lost in 2023. Just this past Christmas, Jim welcomed a new dog into the family from the LAPS shelter in Langley — a loyal companion named River. A go fund me has been set up in Jims name to benefit the Langley Animal and Protection Society.
Jim had an unforgettable laugh, a generous spirit, and a calm presence that made people feel at ease. He was deeply loved and respected by all who knew him, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of many.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on August 23, 2025, in Langley and on August 24, 2025, in Cobble Hill to honour and remember the incredible man he was. In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations to a go fund me page to then be donated to LAPS (Langley Animal Protection Society) in Jim’s memory.
Jim’s life was full of love, family, adventure, and laughter. He will be missed beyond measure.
