James was born in 1924 in Des Moines Iowa. He moved with his family to California at age 11. An early impression he often mentioned was first seeing the mountains.
He graduated from Caltech in 1945 as a commissioned Navy officer. He worked for a number of companies in his early career and finally settled at Hughes Aircraft where he was the project manager during the competition for NATO’s North Atlantic Ground Defense Environment. He …
