James's obituary
James Capton passed away on November 13, 2024, peacefully in his home in Amelia, Ohio, after complications from injuries sustained in a cycling accident. He was 78 years old. An engineer to his core, James reveled in orchestrating and appreciating the finer details in life. He enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a design engineer in Detroit, Michigan, contributing to the design of a diverse array of iconic vehicles, including the DeLorean, Disney amusement park rides, and high-profile government projects. His creativity and ingenuity also extended to his personal life, where we found passion in woodworking, cooking, and tinkering with an endless punch-list of personal projects, like restoring his beloved 1970 MG MGB.
James was born in Hamtramck, Michigan on October 11, 1946. He was a devoted husband to Robin (Kuttner) Capton, father to Angela (Andrew) Jones, and grandfather to Gwendolyn (age 6), Leona (age 4) and Carson (age 2). He was a steadfast presence at every sporting event, game or competition he could attend for both his daughter and grandchildren, including traveling the country supporting his daughter in the Carolina Crown drum and bugle corps. Raising his family in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, James relished his quiet weekend mornings fishing from his boat on Lake St. Clair, golfing with his wife and friends, and honing his craft as an exceptionally talented craftsman, refinishing every room of their home by hand. After retirement, James and Robin moved to Lexington, Kentucky, where James discovered a new appreciation for bourbon and University of Kentucky basketball, however, his commitment to family eventually drew him to Amelia, Ohio, where he could be closer to his grandchildren.
James lived a vibrant and varied life, all the while staying committed to his True North--family, faith, health, and vitality. His personal impact will live on in the legacy of his family, accomplishments, and work for generations. He will be remembered in a private gathering of friends and family in Michigan during the coming months.
