James's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James "Jim" Birch, who left us peacefully on May 4, 2024. Born on January 25, 1942, James spent his 82 years bringing joy, warmth, and kindness to those around him.
Known affectionately to his friends as Jim, he will be remembered as a kind, mild-mannered, easy-going, humorous, loving, and caring man. His personality was a beacon of comfort to all who knew him, and his hearty laughter will resonate in the hearts of many for years to come.
James was an avid sports enthusiast with a particular affinity for the St Louis Cardinals. In quieter moments, he would often be found playing his favorite games, such as Scrabble, crosswords, jumbles, and Oh Hell, or engrossed in a book or crossword puzzle. His love for reading and word games truly showcased his expansive vocabulary and sharp intellect.
One of James' remarkable accomplishments was nearly becoming a major-league baseball pitcher. This feat was a testament to his tremendous dedication and passion for the sport, which inspired those around him.
James is survived by his beloved wife, Pam, whom he adored and cherished. His memory will live on in his three children; daughters Jennifer Tatum, Kimberly (Brian) Brackemyre, and son Michael Birch. His sisters Linda Minde, Janet (Jim)Anders, Judy (Jim) Letz, and Lisa (Andrew) Tomlinson will forever hold treasured memories of their brother. His grandson, Sam, & granddaughter, Rose, will remember their grandfather with love and admiration. James is also survived by his brother-in-law, Boyd Kasten, many cousins & friends.
This world has indeed lost a beautiful man, a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished brother, and a doting grandfather. We celebrate James' life and the amazing man he was. He will be sorely missed, but his legacy will live on through the love and kindness he bestowed upon us all.
