Jim's obituary
It is with enduring love and appreciation in our hearts that we share this memorial of James Anderson McConnell, who fell asleep in death on August 19, 2023. Better known as Jim, he was born on December 2, 1950 in Murphysboro, Illinois, the son of Thomas Arvel McConnell and Pharaba Stella McConnell, both of whom preceded him in death. He lived his life as a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, friend, and community member.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of over 45 years, Kathryn Ann McConnell.
Jim is also survived by six children: Matthew Deitz, Kristina (Michael) Klessmann, Danielle (Jason) Estes, Micah (Rachel) Deitz, Jimmy (Karen) McConnell, and Caleb (Letti) McConnell, along with eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Lois Fuller and Karlin Sue Doolin, along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and an overwhelming amount of friends and loved ones.
All who knew Jim were touched by his loving, warm-hearted, and generous personality. His quick wit brought joy and humor on countless occasions and his hardworking nature never went unnoticed. He held a wealth of knowledge on almost every subject and was eager to share his wisdom with others.
As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, Jim's words and actions emphasized the importance of loving Jehovah God with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength, and loving our neighbor as ourselves, as taught by Jesus in Matthew 22:36-39. He passed these teachings to his children and grandchildren and many others who learned Bible truth from him. Jim also helped his children to appreciate their Grand Creator through his love of nature.
Jim found immense joy in simple pleasures, including fishing, feeding the birds and squirrels in his backyard and spending time observing creation with his wife, Kathryn. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of his life. He cherished many phone calls with long-distance friends and family, and these connections were a testament to the love and respect he earned throughout his lifetime. His legacy is not only one of a life well-lived but also the large, loving family and network of friends he left behind. Jim maintained his integrity to the end, pouring himself out for his family, friends and the congregation for many decades.
His absence will leave a void in our lives, but his teachings, love, and memories will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held for Jim on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 1:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Immokalee, Florida. Those who wish to honor Jim's memory are welcome to join us as we commemorate the beautiful life he lived.
