James's obituary

James Allen Dixon, age 80 of Chapel Hill, NC, passed away on Wednesday December 4, 2025. James was born on August 30, 1945 to the late Clarence Dixon and Edna Lassiter Dixon Hunt. He was also predeceased by a brother John T. Dixon and a daughter Wendy Dixon Smith.

James served in the U.S. Navy as a member of the elite SEALs team and was deployed on 2 tours of duty in Vietnam.  James was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Chapel Hill. He owned and operated his own HVAC business and was known as a jack of all trades. 

James is survived by his loving wife Barbara Jean Bradshaw Dixon, sons William H. O’Neal Jr. (Betsy) and Ronald L. O’Neal. He is also survived by his grandchildren Amber (Glen) Musick, April (Greg) Mathern, Shea O’Neal, Hunter (Shannon) O’Neal, Caitlin Browning and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Antioch Baptist Church on December 18, 2025 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 1707 White Cross Rd., Chapel Hill, NC 27516 or to the family to help with final expenses c/o Barbara Dixon, 3408 Hawk Ridge Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27516.
